The Niagara Falls
The Niagara Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of North America, include three waterfalls located on the Niagara River. The river drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario and marks the border between Canada and the USA. On the banks of the Niagara River and opposite the waterfalls there stand two towns connected by the Rainbow Bridge: Niagara Falls, Ontario, in Canada and Niagara Falls, New York, in the USA.
The
three waterfalls, from the biggest to the smallest, are Horseshoe Falls,
American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. The Horseshoe is on the Canadian side, whereas the other two are on the American side. The Horseshoe is 53 metres high and 790 metres wide and, with a volume of water that can reach 5000 cubic metres per second, it has the highest flow rate of any waterfall in the world.
For a thrilling experience at Niagara Falls, take a trip on board the Maid of The Mist, a ferry that will take you right to the base of the Horseshoe; you can also take a tour on board a helicopter which will give you a birds-eye view of the falls.
At night, twenty coloured searchlights with over four billion candle power illuminate the Niagara Waterfalls, offering a breathtaking spectacle.
