Pop Music
The term pop music first appeared in 1926 and was used to define a piece of music having popular appeal. From 1967, the name pop has more and more been used in opposition with the term rock; whereas rock aspired to authenticity, experimentation and expansion of popular music, pop was ephemeral, more easily accessible and aimed at selling as much as possible.
Pop music developed drawing on many other genres of popular music, sentimental ballad, gospel, soul, jazz, country music and many others.
The main medium of pop music is the song, which usually lasts between three and five minutes, marked by a catchy rhythmic element.
