Fish and Chips
Fish and chips is the traditional British take away food and it is made of deep fried fish fillet and chips. It is very popular in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Canada, South Africa and some parts of the United States of America.
Cod is generally used to make fish and chips, but other types of fish with white meat can also be used, these are generally haddock, flounder, whiting or plaice. Some restaurants have more than one type of fish and customers can choose their favourite.
The fish is dipped in batter and then fried. When fried the batter hardens and becomes crispy, while inside the fish remains soft.
Chips are deep fried potatoes. They are a little bit larger than French fries.
Fish and chips is commonly sold as take away food in fish and chips shops, also called chippies or chippers in modern English. The first fish and chips shop was opened in London, i by Joseph Malin.
