Mountain biking is the sport of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough terrain, using mountain bikes. Mountain bikes are similar to other bikes, but have certain features designed to improve performance on rough terrain.
Mountain biking can generally be divided into different categories: cross country (XC) downhill, freeride, and others. Cross-Country includes climbs and descents on a variety of terrains; downhill mountain biking consists in riding mountain bikes downhill; freeride includes everything and allows the mountain biker to do anything they wish.
Mountain bikes
Mountain bikes have strong suspension, wide tyres with a pronounced tread, a flat or upwardly-rising handlebar that gives the mountain biker more control, and disc brakes.
Equipment Mountain bikers normally use gloves, glasses and shoes with gripping soles, similar to those used for hiking.
