Computers
The earliest forms of computers can be traced back to the 1600s, with the invention of a number of mechanical devises capable of performing calculations.
Yet the first electronic computer, ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Calculator) was built in 1946 at the University of Pennsylvania. It weighed 30 tons and was composed of 19,000 vacuum tubes or valves. With the invention of the transistor things began to change, computers became smaller and more reliable.
However, it wasn't until the 1980s that the computer became small enough to use at home and cheap enough to be affordable on a large scale. IBM (International Business Machines Corporation) launched the first small computer in 1981 and called it Personal Computer or PC.
Computers have grown more and more important over the years, so much so that they have become indispensable. There is a least one computer in every household and in many cases a computer for each member of the family.
Computers allow easier and quicker operations, especially when it comes to storing or retrieving information. They have drastically changed every aspect of our lives, from work to leisure, from entertainment to communication, information and study.
